Integrating Knife and Fox Team to Square Banking

The team at Square brought us in to work directly with their internal development team on the launch of their Business Banking application, and to create 3D marketing assets presenting their new products.

The initial design of the Square Checking product needed improvement in terms of usability, navigation, and presentation of key features. Users found it difficult to link their external bank accounts and manage their savings efficiently.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Information
Architecture
We restructured the information architecture around the tasks users actually came to do: linking external bank accounts, managing savings, and understanding balances at a glance. That structure became the backbone for every screen that followed.
Wireframes and Prototyping
We created wireframes and prototypes for the new Square Checking design, incorporating the refined information architecture. This allowed for early testing and feedback to iterate on the design and ensure it met user expectations.
Visual Design
With the wireframes and prototypes validated, we developed a visually appealing design language for Square Checking that aligned with the Square brand identity. We implemented their current UI kit, ensuring everything adhered to the 8px grid system. The design emphasized readability, accessibility, and visual hierarchy to create an engaging experience for users.
Seamless Handoff to Development
We collaborated closely with the development team, ensuring a seamless handoff of the final design assets. Our attention to detail and adherence to the 8px grid system helped maintain design consistency and facilitated smooth implementation.
Results
Results
As a result of Knife and Fox's efforts, the redesigned Square Checking product offers a significantly improved user experience. Users can now easily link their external bank accounts, manage their savings, and navigate through the accounts detail page, link external accounts feature, and full bank overview.

When we teamed up with Square, our 3D team stepped in as well, producing high-quality renders of the new credit cards. The work went beyond checking a box. It showed Square and their customers the level of craft we bring to everything we touch.
